Jill Meager

Location: United Kingdom

Wildlife and wild places are at the core of Jill’s art practice. She spent her early years roaming the countryside and coastlines of Scotland and those landscapes, the creatures, the light and the colours still inform much of her work.

Jill is best known for her single, larger than life portraits of animals and birds. More recently she has been working on a collection of abstract paintings based on the extraordinary UK locations she visits to find her subjects.

Jill studied languages at Cambridge University, and before becoming a professional artist, she had a successful career as an actor (among other appearances, Miss Marple, Bergerac, Taggart, and even a James Bond film). She also worked as a stand-up comedian while studying at Putney School of Art and Design.

Jill’s work has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, she was a finalist in the National Open Art Competition and her work has been used to illustrate a Michael Morpurgo short story and for Christmas card designs for the charities Farms for City Children and InterAct Stroke Support. Her work is held in private collections around the world.
