Andrea Mosey

Location: North Yorkshire

I am a contemporary landscape artist working from my home studio in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Through my paintings I aim to tell the stories of the places we love through the use of colour, light and shade. I enjoy painting big skies and dramatic landscapes that capture an ethereal quality of light.  Evocative, calming and peaceful landscapes that convey a sense of time and place.

I’m lucky enough to love in a beautiful part of the world with both the North Yorkshire Moors and Dales on my doorstep, I’m surrounded by inspiration for my work. As a regular visitor to Cornwall, Devon and the Lake District visiting family, these landscapes also pop up in my work quite frequently too.

I work predominantly in oils as I just cannot resist the rich buttery texture of this medium, using a layered approach to create a depth and texture. My work usually has a semi abstract quality to allow the viewer to put their own interpretation to the piece. I usually start with a reference image and then overlay this with how I feel about that particular landscape, the memories I have of it, the impact of the weather and the time of day and the emotion that I am trying to convey. I find that all of these things feed each other to let the painting come together naturally to the finished image.
