March 28, 2019 New Art Gallery in Ashburton, South Devon

Local business entrepreneur Sue Sturton is set to open a new contemporary art gallery in Ashburton, South Devon.

Set to open to the public on the 12th April 2019, the gallery has already attracted some outstanding international talent to exhibit at the inaugural exhibition ‘New Beginnings’ including Marie Mills, Jane Skingley, Stephanie Ho, Sally Stafford, Keith Stott, Tor Allen and Richard Glass.

Stephanie Ho, born in Hong Kong in 1979 has exhibited globally, specifically in Art Beatus Gallery in Hong Kong, La Galleria – Pall Mall, Cork Street Open Exhibition…. And has participated in numerous art fairs, such as Art Hong Kong, Art Shanghai, Art Tokyo and Art London to name but a few. Stephanie has not exhibited in Devon previously so will bring some exciting new works for local collectors and audiences.

Sally Stafford, Marie Mills and Jane Skingley are no strangers to Sue, who was responsible for the renovation of a derelict grocery store in Modbury and creating ‘The Brownston Gallery’ – Sally, Marie and Jane have artistically gone from strength – to – strength. Jane Skingley is best known for her dramatic interpretation of seascapes and clouds. She now also paints landscapes, birds and flowers. The common thread in her subject matter is a love of the outdoors and nature. The coastline and landscape of the South of England is a big source of inspiration.

She has exhibited work at the Royal College of Art, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and Glyndebourne opera house in East Sussex. In 2017 she undertook a large commission for the WWF on the subject of climate change which was exhibited at the Houses of Parliament.

Jane’s work is regularly exhibited at art fairs in London and New York, including the Affordable Art Fair and the London Art Fair.

Marie Mills is an artist; inspired by her passion for life and the natural world. She produces work which reminds the viewer of the things often taken for granted or overlooked in our busy lives. The abundance of wild flowers or the beauty that the seasons brings is beautifully captured in paint.

Marie Mills grew up in one of the gardens of England, Yorkshire. Surrounded with this beautiful landscape this is where she begins her love for nature.

Marie moved to Cornwall with her family over a decade ago now. A perfect place to take taking her inspiration from the stunning Seascapes and hedgerows. More recently her new love of travelling has found her spending more and more time in The French Alps. She is a prolific oil on canvas flower/landscape artist who exclusively shows her work in a small handful of galleries around the country.

Sue Sturton has worked in the creative industries for over fifteen years, from the Dance Industry to award winning writing and now back to her ‘roots’ and her love of contemporary art.

Sue says ‘I am tremendously excited about this project’ I am devoted to sourcing artists that will excite and intrigue the viewers. I aim to attract artists that are not necessarily from the South of England. I want to captivate the viewers and hopefully collectors with a stunning visual celebration of contemporary art.
