Lesley Martin

Lesley Martin is a Fine Art graduate of Brighton College of Art. During her studies there she became aware of the exciting and accomplished decoration adorning the visiting fairs. After graduating she apprenticed herself to the Master Showman’s Decorator Fred Fowle in Balham, London.

The rich references found in fairground painting and a subsequent Interior Decorating Company, using special decorative effects have informed her ceramic work, which she began in 1996.

The theme of animals has been a constant one and she is commissioned world wide for her ceramic dog portraits.

Other work explores the sculptural and fantasy qualities of footwear, and a fascination with natural forms can be seen in the oversized Mushrooms and Fruit.

Lesley Martin has a studio in South West London and has exhibited widely throughout the UK.
