I work mainly in oils on canvas, charcoal on paper and fluid acrylic poured from a bottle onto Mylar film, where it pools and flows.
I’ve been involved with life drawing for many years and look for interesting shapes that the body makes. I always try to work with quick expressive marks to capture a moment, gesture or lightness.
I also paint landscapes and still lifes, taking inspiration from the beautiful coastline in Devon as well as painting everyday objects observed from unusual or skewed angles.
I think for me the three most important elements to capture in a piece of work are – line, it’s expressive nature and honesty – shape, it often deceives the observer – light, how it plays across surfaces, hiding or highlighting form and texture.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my paintings.
